“Love in Gesture” Award-Winning Photography ~ Edmonton

Love in Gesture - Awarded Photo of the Week by NAPP

There is a story to be told in every photo!  One of our images was recently voted photo of the week by the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

In NAPP’s post, Larry Becker states “I’d bet Benamoz gets a lot of referral business from happy couples. Look through his couples portrait sessions and you’ll see Madison Avenue quality work that could easily be in a bridal magazine or perfume ad. And since his clients are the models and he makes them look so good, I’m sure they love his work. The image Love in Gesture is an equal mix of art and portraiture. There’s a great frozen moment in time where both subjects are obviously happy and the soft focus on the subjects works really well here to amplify the dream-like quality of the moment. Such tight cropping eliminates the possibility of all distractions and just the couple and their smiles are featured. The black and white post processing is a nice choice and the overall image is quite artistic. He has a good eye.”

My Groom Waits – Editor’s Choice – #Viewbug

My Groom Waits

A beautiful bride looks out the window just before meeting her husband-to-be. This photo captures the bride’s sense of calm before the bustle of the day’s activity is about to begin.

Taking the time to capture an image such as this during the getting ready portion of the wedding day, gives her a moment to pause and reflect on all that is before her.  A unique ‘getting ready’ memory that brides love to have from their wedding day! An inspiring photograph voted “Popular” on 500px.com.

Gorgeous Vintage Engagement – Edmonton

There are some absolutely outstanding engagement sessions that truly stand out.  This one in particular, a super-sweet couple, divinely in love, draws you in with their ease in front of the camera and with each other.  Our locations were, to say the least, outstanding!

Our day started out a a train museum, followed by some time in rural/remote areas.  By far, this is one of my favorite engagements.  Congrats to you both, Corey & Christine.  Wishing you the very best in your future together!

Martha Stewart Chic + Natural Wedding

We have just returned from a beautiful Jamaica Wedding…a wonderfully warm and serene setting at Sandals Montego Bay – and we could not resist the release of just a few images for our couple.

Yazmin and Sean chose this location to create an intimate experience for their family and friends; a beautiful place that they wished to integrate their love of adventure and the experience of other cultures.  They chose a beautiful Martha Stewart Chic and Natural theme – ultimately, the perfect beach wedding!

Living in the Moment

“Couples choose unplugged weddings not just to ensure the quality of professional images. They also do it to keep guests engaged and focused on the ceremony itself.”

Bridal ipadI recently read an interesting article from CNN entitled: “When snap-happy guests go too far” all about photo-bombing at weddings. This hits very close to home for me as it is a very real scenario at many weddings we photograph.  One of the worst scenarios I have ever encountered in this regard, was a very small wedding of about 30 guests, 85% of them had a camera phone (including a sweet, but very busy 5 year old) pointed at the couple for the entire ceremony and during the signing of the wedding certificate.  The guests were crowded around the signing table to the point that I was unable to get in front of them for this all-important photograph.  Later, the bride actually apologized to me as she clearly understood what had just happened.A photographer within the CNN article quoted: “It’s not me that you’re hurting, it’s the bride and groom and those who have been invited,” she said. “You don’t want to be the person who blocks the first kiss not just from me, but from other guests, or whose flash ruins the shot when the bride’s father is crying as he walks down the aisle.”

As much as social media, selfies and status updates are a norm, we are finding that couples are drawn to the unplugged wedding. Some of our bridal couples have even requested a little blurb from us regarding “no photography moments” during their wedding.

The following paragraph was written by an anonymous author (I wish I knew who, so I could give credit to where it is due) but I have found it fundamental to photographing the natural gesture at weddings that we love to capture; i.e, not having to look past those cameras and camera phones!
